U.S. BANK TO RETURN AS PRESENTING SPONSOR OF
GRAND PRIX OF CLEVELAND Bridgestone and Sherwin-Williams also continue support of traditional Cleveland event
CLEVELAND, Feb. 9, 2006 – The Grand Prix of Cleveland will be celebrating two important anniversaries this year: the 25th anniversary of the event and the 10th consecutive year that U.S. Bank has participated in the event. The Grand Prix of Cleveland proudly announced today that U.S. Bank will return as presenting sponsor of the event, to be called the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome back U.S. Bank as presenting sponsor of this year’s Grand Prix of Cleveland,” said Rena Shanaman, Managing Director of the Grand Prix of Cleveland. “This will mark the 10th consecutive year that U.S. Bank has been associated with the Grand Prix and the race couldn’t ask for a better partner. U.S. Bank has remained committed to Cleveland and to showcasing the Grand Prix as an event that brings international attention to the city and the region.”
Building on an initiative that began in 2004, U.S. Bank will continue to enhance its promotional partnership with the Grand Prix of Cleveland by creating some exciting opportunities for U.S. Bank customers with special events and promotions featured in its bank branch locations throughout Ohio leading up to the race.
"U.S. Bank is proud to sponsor the Grand Prix of Cleveland for the 10th consecutive year,” said Kurt C. Treu, President U.S. Bank, Northeast Ohio. “We Believe in Cleveland and we understand the Grand Prix of Cleveland has the largest positive economic impact of any annual event, injecting nearly $30MM into the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. We hope that everyone who Believes in Cleveland supports the race in the Silver Celebration of it's 25thYear!"
Sherwin-Williams also returns as a sponsor after an inaugural partnership with the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank in 2005. The Cleveland-based company’s
agreement with the Grand Prix includes trackside signage and hospitality elements as well as on-track activities that include a dedicated Sherwin-Williams pace car as part of the relationship.
“For years, some of the biggest names in racing have trusted their car finishes to Sherwin-Williams,” said Blair LaCour, President and General Manager, Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Corp. “It was only natural for us to expand that partnership as a proud sponsor of one of Ohio’s most exciting sporting events – the Grand Prix of Cleveland. With our headquarters in Cleveland, and hundreds of employees who call this city home, we felt it was important to team up with such a tremendous event that benefits the entire greater Cleveland community.”
The Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank further announced that Bridgestone, another major Ohio corporation and long-time Grand Prix supporter, will return as a sponsor of the event. Bridgestone is also the presenting sponsor and official tire of the Champ Car World Series, meaning that every car on the Champ Car circuit is equipped with Bridgestone tires.
"Bridgestone Motorsport is delighted to continue its support of this great race by again serving as the Official Tire for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland in 2006,” said Al Speyer, Executive Director of Motorsports Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC. “The Cleveland event is perennially one of the most exciting on the Champ Car World Series schedule, and it's very important to Bridgestone. The fine Potenza race tires used at Cleveland and every Champ Car event are designed and produced less than an hour away at the Bridgestone Technical Center in Akron. We'll entertain close to a thousand employees, associates and other Bridgestone team members from the Cleveland-Akron area at the track that weekend. Best of all, we know our guests and all the fans are guaranteed to see a Bridgestone victory on race day."
The sponsorship renewals of these three major Ohio corporations represent a significant accomplishment for the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank, which has emphasized sponsorships from leading, locally based businesses.
“Support from the Northeast Ohio business community is vital to the success of the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank,” said Michael T. Lanigan, Chairman and CEO of Mi-Jack Promotions. “We are grateful for the continued support of these three great partners – U.S. Bank, Sherwin-Williams and Bridgestone.”
