Fans will have a chance to see some of racing’s greatest drivers and collect commemorative ticket and poster

CLEVELAND, Feb. 9, 2006 – For 25 years, the high-speed, open-wheel cars of Champ Car have thrilled fans at the Grand Prix of Cleveland, a Northeast Ohio tradition that currently has the longest tenure of any temporary racing venue on the Champ Car circuit. To celebrate the event’s 25th anniversary, the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank is introducing several exciting programs that promise to make the 2006 event a very memorable one.

Since Bobby Rahal won the inaugural race as a rookie in1982, some of the greatest names in auto racing have taken the checkered flag on the famous course at Burke Lakefront Airport on the shores of Lake Erie. No celebration of the history of the Grand Prix of Cleveland would be complete without including these great champions, so invitations are being extended for the 25th anniversary festivities to all of the past winners of the event. In addition to racing legends such as Al Unser, Jr., Mario Andretti, and Emerson Fittipaldi, that list of champions includes current stars Paul Tracy and Sebastien Bourdais. During the 2006 Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank, past winners will be included in autograph sessions, a fan forum, a celebrity go-kart race, and pre-race ceremonies honoring these legends of the sport.

In addition, the five past champions with multiple wins at the Grand Prix of Cleveland will be further recognized when grandstands at the event are named in their honor. This list of repeat winners is comprised by Fittipaldi, Alex Zanardi, Danny Sullivan, Bourdais, Tracy, and Unser, Jr. Said Zanardi, “I am honored that the Grand Prix of Cleveland would recognize my accomplishments and am proud to be linked with an event that has meant so much to the series. I will never forget the times I raced in Cleveland and will certainly never forget my 1997 victory there, which ranks among my finest. On another note I would like to congratulate the Grand Prix of Cleveland on its 25th anniversary.”

The past champions will also be honored on-site at the event with signs and banners celebrating their historic victories on display throughout the paddock area. In addition, the Grand Prix of Cleveland will produce special 25th anniversary collectable tickets as well as a commemorative poster.

“The Grand Prix of Cleveland has a rich history that we are excited to celebrate during our 25th anniversary festivities,” said Rena Shanaman, Managing Director of the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank. “Along with the important new innovations we are introducing in 2006, we felt it was important to recognize the great traditions of the past in order to build for the future.”
